SMOK QBOX styling and build quality

The first thing you notice about the SMOK QBOX is its incredibly compact design because it is literally the size of a matchbox. Standing only 53mm tall the overall construction of the QBOX is excellent. It also very lightweight but sturdy and nicely balanced.

The 510 pin at the top of the device is spring-loaded and I had no issues getting any of my atomizers to sit flush. Anything up to 24mm diameter will tend to look good on the QBOX but 25mm atomizers will overhang slightly. There are three buttons all of which have a nice feel, are responsive with only an every so minor rattle present.

The OLED display is bright and clear being set out in the same fashion as the one on the SMOK Alien. While all the typical information you would expect is shown I personally find things a bit too cluttered but maybe the font used doesn’t really agree with my old eyes. Of course if you are used to the SMOK Alien you won’t have an issue with it. Located in the base of the device is the Micro USB Port as well as five ventilation holes for the internal battery. The device features a 1600mAh internal battery that can be charged via the included Micro USB cable and can also be used to receive firmware upgrades from SMOK providing it is connected to a computer with an internet connection.

In terms of power the QBOX offers a maximum output of 50W and can be used in either Variable Wattage or Temperature Control Mode and has support for all major wire types. Included with the device is the TFV8 Baby Beast Tank which has adjustable airflow, top filling and a 3ml capacity (2ml capacity if purchased in the EU). The tank matches up really nicely with the device and makes for a very compact set up.

Ease of use

The included manual is very helpful to a beginner and the device itself is relatively straightforward to get to grips with.

• Five clicks of the fire button switches the device on.
• With the device switched on click the fire button five times to lock/unlock the device.
• Three clicks of the fire button opens the menu. Navigate the menu by pressing the fire button and hold the fire button down the select an option. Use the plus and minus buttons to make context specific adjustments.
• The menu offers a wide variety of features including Stealth Mode, Puff Counter, Contrast Adjustment, Operation Mode etc.

SMOK QBOX performance

In Wattage Mode this device worked extremely well and gave me a consistently good vape at all times. As you would expect regularly vaping at 35W does drain the 1600mAh internal battery quickly but if you only plan to use the QBOX as a pocket friendly device during breaks at work then hopefully it should last you all day.

Temperature Control Mode works but it certainly is not the best example I have come across. Considering the price and size of this device I think a more accurate TC chip would have increased the cost significantly. It is of course serviceable enough but the Resistance does tend to fluctuate often so if you are someone who wants very accurate Temperature Control readings this device is not for you. On the other hand if you are new to vaping and fancy dabbling with Temperature Control on occasion it may serve as a suitable enough first taste but keep in mind the kit does not include Temperature Mode compatible coils.

The included TFV8 Baby Beast Tank offers a surprisingly good vape at 35W and this can be increased to the QBOX’s maximum of 50W if you desire greater vapour production. Flavour was very good and the cloud production was extremely generous for such a compact atomizer. Sadly the tank had a significant problem and it would frequently leak from the airflow slots depositing juice all over the top of the device. This was rather odd since the TFV8 Baby Beast Tank supplied with the SMOK OSUB 80 Baby that I reviewed recently had no such problem. After leaving the tank standing empty for a couple of days the real reason for the leaking became obvious since the glass had a huge crack in it so I can only assume that it had a micro-fracture which eventually became progressively worse. It was certainly unfortunate but just one of those things.

Conclusion

The QBOX is a very attractive and exceptionally compact device that is easily carried around. In Wattage Mode it works well but Temperature Control Mode while functional is not the best. The included tank offers a great vape resulting in nice flavour and clouds but the leaking issue definitely troubles me. Given that the same tank sent for review with the SMOK OSUB 80W Baby had no such problem I’m really hoping this one is just an unfortunate dud.

The tank leaking isn't really relevant since I have tried a Baby Beast Tank packaged with another SMOK device, it had no such problem and I really enjoyed using it! Sadly on this occasion the fault was either down to a defect in the glass or the result of the item being knocked around in transit so it is unlikely to happen to you. The only thing to keep in mind about the QBOX is its small battery so it certainly won’t suit anyone who vapes heavily but for more modest users I think the QBOX might be a decent enough choice! As always the decision to buy is yours to make!

Nord Device

1. Large battery capacity: Built-in 1100mAh rechargeable battery.
2. When vaping, the LED light will turn white; without pod, the LED light will flash 4 times.
3. 8 seconds protection: When the power button is held for longer than 8 seconds, the battery will automatically shut down the output and LED light will flash 5 times.
4. When charging, the LED shows different colors according to the power status. Red light will on when battery power is lower than 30% (battery voltage <3.6V); orange light will on when power is between 30% to 70% (battery voltage: 3.6V-3.9V); and green light will on when power is between 70% to 100% (battery voltage: 3.9V-4.08V). After fully charged (battery voltage >4.08V), the light will off.
5. Pod Detection: When the pod is installed, the light will on for one second.
6. Short Circuit Protection: if a load short circuit is detected, the white LED light will flash 4 times. 7. Low Voltage Protection: when battery capacity is lower than 3.3V, the LED light will flash 15 times.
7. Lithium Battery Protection: over discharge voltage is 2.4V, overcharge voltage is 4.3V, overcharge current is 1A. Note: After vaping for some time, if there is any water vapor gathering on the contact point between the pod and the mod, please clean the water vapor before you reuse it. Too much accumulated water vapor would block the junction and affect the functionality.

SMOK Nord Operation Guide

1. To turn power on/ off: fast press power button 5 times in succession to power on or off, and the white LED light will flash 3 times.
2. Long press the power button to vape.
3. Press power button twice, and then LED shows different colors according to the power status. Red for battery power lower than 30%, orange for battery power between 30%-70%, and green for battery power higher than 70%. 4.Charge the battery via the USB cable included.

Attention
