The diecast zinc stand also acts as a holder for the Go Mic.

The first thing I noticed about this microphone is the build quality: the diecast base is zinc-molded and outfitted with a shock absorbent pad to isolate the recording capsules from minimal vibrations. Aside from acting as a shock absorber, the base also serves as a clip for computer monitors and a sheath for the microphone itself. This in addition to the included zipper carrying case.

Behind the windscreen rests two 10mm capsules that are internally shock-isolated and can record both cardioid and omnidirectional polar patterns. The pattern switch is found on the interior side of the mic housing. Here users can choose between cardioid, cardioid with a 10dB pad, or omnidirectional pattern.

There aren’t many, if any, frivolities included with the Samson Go Mic. That said, the LED indicator is useful for notifying users of power supply and clipping; it blinks red when noises are too loud. Additionally, the outer edge of the recording module houses two inputs: one for a 3.5mm headphone plug and another for mini-B USB power supply.

Installing the microphone couldn’t be easier. If you’re using something like Audacity or Adobe Audition, all you have to do is plug the microphone in via the included cable and hit record. Listeners can record 16-bit/44.1kHz, which leaves ample room for post-production adjustments.

Recording quality

Listeners can choose from two primary recording modes via a built-in switch.

While listeners can record 16-bit/44.1kHz, the quality isn’t the best. This makes sense, though, since you’re paying less than $40 for a premium-feeling portable mic. Background noise like outside traffic, branches brushing against a nearby window, and even a noisy refrigerator are registered by the microphone regardless of what recording mode is activated. The -10dB setting is a nice touch, though, and comes in handy when surrounded by manageable background noise.

While the microphone does have a tendency to record unwanted background noise, it’s still a welcome upgrade to my Surface Book’s integrated microphone. What’s more, for people looking for a solution to their business calls and gaming communications, this is an excellent and affordable pick. Vocals are more isolated in cardioid mode than omnidirectional mode and will outperform most onboard computer mics.

In the user manual, Samson provides the frequency response of both polar patterns.

Cardioid mode should be used for things like podcasting or when the only audio you want to record is directly in front of the microphone.
Omnidrectional recording mode should be used when you want to the microphone to pick up some of the environmental ambiance.

Samson Meteor mic review – Look & Feel of the Samson Meteor

The First thing that attracted me to the Samson’s Meteor Microphone was its unique design.

What I have realized that Samson designed all of their microphones in such a way that the microphone itself immediately catches your attention. Yes whether it is IK Multimedia iRig Mic, Samson Go or any other mic.

The Meteor is a Pretty Goof looking Microphone, which has obviously been designed with aesthetics in mind.

The Samson’s Meteor Microphone is designed primarily to sit on your desk and to be like your Voice over the microphone, gaming microphone or you can say podcasting microphone.

They have given Fold-back leg design that gives optimal mic positioning. The legs are made of metal and are tipped with the rubber which prevents the mic from sliding on a flat surface.

The best part about their legs is each of the legs can be adjusted separately in order to point the microphone according to your preferred direction.

For those who want to use an external stand for this microphone, it features a standard screw size of 5/8 inches to attach it to a microphone stand or boom arms.

This tiny Little beast is very lightweight and portable, If you fold the leg it would easily fit into your coat pocket.

I got this microphone in a good quality black cardboard box with the housing so that the user can hold everything in place. This makes it ideal for easy storage when you are not using the microphone.

I also got a small draw-string carry bag which eventually protects the microphone from scratches when being put into a box alongside with other equipment.

Features & Controls

USB connection port is given On the back side of the Samson Meteor microphone that allows you to connect the microphone with your Pc, Laptop or Mac.

Also on the back side of the Meteor a 3.5mm headphone port is given that allows you to listen back what you recording. So if you connect your microphone with the headphone you can monitor the actual voice capturing with the microphone.

The top of the chrome-plated Meteor Mic consists of a two-stage grille to protect the mic capsule, reduce wind noise, and reduce the need for a pop filter.

On the front side of the microphone there’s a mute button is given, which i found very useful for any microphone.

Because i have seen most of the high end microphone which cost $200-$200 don’t comes with Mute button.

There’s a headphone volume control dial is also given that allows you to adjust the volume of the headphone.

Above the Volume Knob, there’s a little three-color LED light is liven. When you power on the microphone, the light illuminates blue, when you press the mute button it turns into amber light and it flashes a red light when the recording source is too loud.

Sound Quality Of Samson Meteor

There is a very small and well-written user manual given by the Samson which contains tips on recording voices, guitar, piano, or an overhead drum kit.

If you have check out my other review then you probably know that my music skill is very limited, so i was unable to test the quality of the sound captured by the Meteor mic while using it with musical instruments.

But yes, I’m definitely impressed with the sound quality as we tested it for Podcasting and Voice Overs.

One thing you have to keep in mind that like any condenser microphone you need to record audio in decent conditions. If you are in a fairly noisy condition or in a very busy street then you might want to look at a good dynamic microphone.

Samson Meteor mic features one of the largest condenser diaphragms (25mm) with a cardioid polar pattern.

Which means the microphone will pick up strong sound directly in front and 90° to either side and less sensitive for sounds to the rear of the microphone.

If you look at the frequency response chart of the Samson Meteor microphone, Like many other USB microphones it does have quite a presence boost

After reviewing more than 25 microphones, What I have realized is, if you are going to do any sort of serious vocal recording then you have to use a pop filter or screen that keeps your “p-pops” consonants from well popping.

But during testing this Meteor microphone, we found that with any kind of pop filter this mic does a much better job for rejecting or eliminating popping sounds that comes while recording.

Using Meteor Mic with an iPad

As we mentioned earlier in this Samson Meteor mic review, this microphone can be used with any recording app on the iPad or Garage band software.

To use Meteor Mic with the iPad, you’ll just need an Apple’s Camera Connection Kit.

As soon as you connect it with the iPad, It takes very less time to register but then shows up in Garage Band as an external source. Point to be noted that it does not works with iPhone 4, so you need an iPhone 5 or later to use this mic with your iPad.
